10 years of Responsive Org

Hi there -

Ten years ago, the Responsive.org Manifesto laid out that “The rate of change continues to accelerate” and “The future is increasingly hard to predict.”

Today, those principles are more relevant than ever.

Our lives are rife with uncertainty – from the acceleration of AI to more generalized anxiety about the state of the world.

This rapid rate of change provides the opportunity for impact. We have the opportunity to reinvent how we work.

Established in 2016, Responsive Conference is an annual summit that brings together 300 executives, founders and entrepreneurs who want to make meaningful shifts – within their organizations and in the world.

At Responsive Conference 2025, you’ll discover tactics, tools and connections for how to Design for Change – within your organizations and yourselves.

This year’s conference focuses the lens of organization design on three main topics:

  • The acceleration of AI
  • Climate change
  • Politics & the state of the world

We have an amazing start to our speaker lineup for 2025! Just to name a few of our 30+ presenters:

  • Vivienne Ming, PhD explores maximizing human capacity as a theoretical neuroscientist, delusional inventor, and demented author focused on AI.
  • Doug Kirkpatrick was an early employee at the Morning Star Company, a self-managed tomato manufacturer. Since, he's written books and consulted with companies around the world about self-management and employee empowerment.
  • Sam Spurlin, is a partner at The Ready and dedicated to transforming organizations into more adaptive and human-centric workplaces. Sam will present on Depthfinding, The Ready’s approach to making real progress on complex challenges by embracing uncertainty and iterative learning.
  • Shelby Wolpa, formerly of InVision, Instacart, OneMedical, is a leading expert in remote and hybrid work, helping high-growth companies design people programs that scale.
  • Eldra Jackson III is the executive director of Inside Circle, a non-profit that advocates for at-risk youth and effective criminal justice rehabilitation. After more than two decades incarcerated, Eldra has dedicated his life to helping people turn their lives around after incarceration.
  • Simone Stolzoff is the author of The Good Enough Job. In his talk, Simone will guide us through the art of navigating uncertainty, from imposter syndrome to existential doubt, offering practical strategies for resilience, action, and acceptance in an unpredictable world.
  • Ashley Whillans is a professor at Harvard Business School, where she teaches on motivation and incentives. She is conducting research on how time-use predicts the self-reported happiness and productivity of employees and teams within hybrid organizations
  • Jamie Woolf spent 14 years as Pixar’s first Director of Culture. On stage, Jaime will focus on the role of storytelling in shaping company culture and leadership. She’ll share lessons from her time at Pixar, explaining how storytelling can be used to inspire teams, drive change, and build strong workplace relationships.

Howdy folks - For the tenth anniversary of Responsive Conference, we’ve decided to do something different. The team has just attended Suzy Welch's Convening on Purpose and Flourishing in the Age of AI at NYU Stern, followed by an incredible week at Transform in Las Vegas. There’s a lot of conversation right now about job displacement and the changing nature of work. For a decade, we’ve said predictability is decreasing. This year, it feels like it’s gone. If you listen to AI nihilists, AGI is...

Hello, By now, you’ve seen the news coming out of Minneapolis – and elsewhere – about the use of force by ICE. It’s disturbing, unconstitutional, and not something we can just scroll by and ignore. The question becomes: What does it mean to act together? How do we participate, even when there are differences of opinion and no single clear path forward? Tomorrow, January 30, a 24-hour National Shutdown is taking place in the United States. The idea is simple: If you’re able to stay home from...

Hello there, It’s been a little while, and I’m glad to be back in touch. As we look ahead to Responsive Conference 2026, our focus is sharpening around a central question: The pace of change has become impossible to ignore. How is the job landscape changing – and what those changes mean for our work, our organizations, and ourselves? New tools are entering the workplace quickly and expectations are shifting fast. Roles feel increasingly less defined, and the path forward isn't clear....
