Responsive Conference is 1 week away!

Hi there -

Welcome back to the weekly Responsive newsletter!

“Remember, sometimes feedback comes in very ugly wrapping—but that doesn’t mean there’s not a gift inside.”

- Carole Robin, PhD

Responsive Conference 2024 is only 9 days away! We have more than 40 speakers on stage and 250 attendees coming from around the world. If you are a Founder, CEO, or People Leader, this is an event that you don't want to miss.

Join us Sept. 18-19 in Oakland

With Responsive Conference 2024 coming up in just over a week, I wanted to highlight a few of the many amazing people that will be speaking in Oakland at this year’s conference.

Carole Robin, PhD

Carole Robin, PhD is an expert in leadership development and interpersonal dynamics. She is best known for her work at Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she taught the infamous "Touchy Feeling" course on Interpersonal Dynamics. This course is considered one of the most transformative experiences for MBA students.

Her expertise in this field led her to co-author the book Connect: Building Exceptional Relationships with Family, Friends and Colleagues, which was featured as one of Bloomberg's Best Books of 2021.

Carole will lead a 90-minute experiential demo of her "Interpersonal Dynamics" course at Responsive Conference 2024. And in anticipation, I recently had her on my podcast, Snafu. Listen to our conversation here.

Joe Bengfort

Joe Bengfort is Enterprise Chief Information Officer at UCSF and Senior Vice President of Information Technology for UCSF Health.

Joe will be on stage at Responsive to talk about what to do when faced with a large, complex organization can no longer provide the scale economically required, the adaptability to innovate, or the resiliency to remain secure.

Join us for a conversation about their multi-year journey to centralize around explicit organizational structures and norms in order to decentralize decision-making and execution.

Michael Melcher

Michael Melcher is an author, executive coach, and lawyer. He's best known for his book Your Invisible Network: How to Create, Maintain, and Leverage the Relationships That Will Transform Your Career, which is a practical guide on building meaningful relationships.

At Responsive Conference 2024, Michael will lead a session that is designed to help attendees improve their network.

I recently had Michael on my podcast to talk about how to network effectively without feeling awkward. Listen to that interview here.

Hi there - In 2015, the authors of Responsive Org wrote “the future is becoming increasingly difficult to predict.” Today, with global instability, political partisanship, and an ever more rapid rate of change, those words feel prescient. The tension between organizations optimized for predictability and the unpredictable world we inhabit has reached a breaking point. Only organizations built to adapt are going to survive. I founded Responsive Conference because I had witnessed the same...

Hi there – We’re five weeks into 2025 and what a world we’re in. During tumultuous times, I know of no better way to build resilience than to bring people together and so I’m delighted to share some updates about RC 2025. As previously, we’re running the conference at the Oakland Museum of California on Sept. 17-18, 2025. The theme this year is “Design for change.” We are placing a renewed focus on how to build adaptable and resilient organizations amidst rapid change, which the authors of...
